Terms of Service
The terms for using Stealward while it is in beta — what the service is, your responsibilities (including recording others lawfully), that it is provided "as is" with no guarantee against theft, and Apple's role in delivery.
These terms cover Stealward while it is in beta. They are written to be plain and fair, and we will update them as the product and its legal review progress. Where the law where you live gives you rights these terms cannot limit, that law prevails.
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Stealward (“Stealward”, “we”, “us”) governing your use of the Stealward app and service. By downloading, installing, or using Stealward, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Stealward.
2. What Stealward is
Stealward is an anti-theft tool. You activate it on a device you leave behind — a Mac, iPad, or iPhone — and that device watches your belongings with its camera and sensors and sends alerts to another device if something looks wrong. Stealward is a deterrent and awareness aid, not a security guarantee. It does not physically prevent theft and does not replace insurance, a locked room, or common sense.
3. Beta service
Stealward is currently offered as a beta. That means:
- Features may change, be added, or be removed as we develop the product.
- The service may be interrupted, and detection or alert delivery may be delayed or fail — for example, if a device loses power or network, or if a third-party service (such as Apple’s push notification system) is unavailable.
- We may set or change limits on use to keep the service running for everyone.
We provide the beta so you can try Stealward and help us improve it. Please do not rely on it as your only protection for anything valuable.
4. Eligibility
You must be 18 or older to use Stealward. By using it, you confirm that you are.
5. Your account and devices
Stealward does not use a name, email, or password. Your account is a random identifier plus cryptographic keys held on your devices. You are responsible for keeping your devices secure and for the activity that happens through them. Because your recordings are end-to-end encrypted with keys that only your devices hold, if you lose access to all of your devices, we cannot recover your recordings for you.
6. Your responsibilities and acceptable use
You agree to use Stealward lawfully and only for its intended purpose — protecting your own belongings. In particular:
- Recording laws are your responsibility. Stealward records video and audio of the area around your device and may capture other people. Laws on recording people — especially audio — vary by location and can require consent. You are solely responsible for complying with them and for obtaining any consent required where you are.
- Do not use Stealward to watch, follow, or record people without the right to do so, or for surveillance, stalking, harassment, or any unlawful purpose.
- Do not use Stealward where recording is prohibited.
- Do not misuse, disrupt, reverse-engineer for an unlawful purpose, or attempt to break the security of the service, or use it to infringe anyone’s rights.
You are responsible for the content your device records and for how you use it.
7. No guarantee against theft or loss
Stealward depends on things outside our control — your device’s battery and network, the venue you are in, Apple’s push delivery, and the actions of other people. We do not warrant that Stealward will detect every event, deliver every alert, prevent any theft, or recover any stolen property. You use Stealward with this understanding, and you remain responsible for your own belongings.
8. Your content
You keep all rights to the video, audio, and other content Stealward records (“Your Content”). Your recordings are end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot access them; we store only encrypted data on your behalf so your own devices can play it back. You grant us the limited permission needed to store, transmit, and process that data solely to provide the service to you, and — during an active session and only as described in the Privacy Policy — to analyze monitoring photos to detect threats.
9. Price and payments
Stealward is free while it is in beta. We do not currently offer a paid plan. If we introduce paid features in the future, any purchase will be handled by Apple through the App Store under Apple’s terms, and we will make the pricing and terms clear before you buy. We do not process your payment details ourselves.
10. Apple’s role
You download Stealward from Apple’s App Store, and your use is also subject to Apple’s standard licensed-application terms. Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for Stealward or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support for Stealward. To the extent these Terms grant you a license to use the app, that license is limited to use on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store rules. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
11. Intellectual property
Stealward, including the app, its design, and its software, is owned by us and protected by law. We grant you a personal, limited, non-transferable, revocable license to use Stealward for its intended purpose while you comply with these Terms. These Terms do not transfer any of our intellectual property to you. Your Content remains yours (Section 8).
12. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what data we handle and how. By using Stealward, you agree to it.
13. Disclaimers
Stealward is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Stealward will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of or damage to property, data, or the belongings Stealward was watching, arising out of or relating to your use of — or inability to use — the service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
15. Termination
You may stop using Stealward at any time and sign your devices out; when you do, the data Stealward kept on a signed-out device is erased from it. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or to protect the service or its users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as Sections 7, 8, 11, 13, and 14) continue to apply.
16. Changes to the service and these Terms
We may change or discontinue parts of the service, and we may update these Terms. When we make a material change to the Terms, we will update the version and effective date above and, where appropriate, ask you to review the new version in the app. Your continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
17. Governing law
A specific governing-law and venue will be set once our served markets are settled; until then these Terms are intended to be read in a jurisdiction-neutral way, and nothing here overrides mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
